Itinerary
Day 01
Gorkhi-Terelj National Park & Khentii Mountains
Your adventure begins with an early departure from Ulaanbaatar, driving into the Khentii Mountains where rugged granite cliffs and forested valleys give way to vast pastures. En route, you'll visit the iconic Genghis Khan Statue, ascending to the horse's head for panoramic views, and explore the ancient caves and formations of Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. By midday, you will connect with a local horse-breeding family to meet your guides and mounts. Setting off on horseback, you will ride through sweeping meadows toward the banks of the Terelj River. As dusk falls, settle into your first wilderness camp to enjoy a hearty dinner under a sky that stretches endlessly in every direction.
Overnight: Tented Camp
Meals: Lunch and dinner
Day 02
Zuugiin Rashaan Springs
Follow the Tuul River deeper into the landscape as the terrain shifts into quiet pine forest, with only the sounds of birds and the occasional movement of wildlife. Keep an eye out for golden eagles overhead as you move farther from any signs of the city and into a more remote, untouched environment. By the end of the day, you'll reach the confluence of the Tuul and Hagiin Rivers, where you'll set up camp for the night, surrounded by forest and far from any trace of urban life.
Overnight: Tented Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 03
Zegestei River
Leave the Tuul Valley behind and move into the taiga, where the landscape becomes denser, quieter, and more remote. This is moose territory, and with time on the trail you'll begin to recognize the subtle signs of their presence in the forest. By the end of the day, you'll camp near the Zegestei River.
Overnight: Tented Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 04
Khagin Khar Nuur
Ride deeper into the mountains, ascending through dense forest where wildlife is part of the landscape, including wolves, deer, and moose. From the top, the terrain opens up before descending toward Khagiin Khar Nuur, a remote alpine lake set far from any roads or settlements. Continue through the valley past a series of smaller lakes before arriving at camp near the water. There is an option to hike above camp for wide views over the surrounding mountains and lakes.
Overnight: Tented Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 05
Khavirgiin Davaa Pass
Ride through Khongoryn River Valley, following the water as the trail winds deeper into the landscape. You'll cross the river and continue into forest made up of birth, pine, and old cedar before beginning a steady climb toward Khavirgiin Davaa Pass. The ascent is steep in places, followed by a long descent on the other side, with views toward Atlan Olgii, one of the highest peaks in the Khentii range. Camp is set in the forest near a stream, surrounded by quiet and distance from everything else.
Overnight: Tented Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 06
